On July 17th, Eau Claire Healthy Communities partnered with the Chamber of Commerce’s Health and Wellness Committee to add some new wellness activities to the Downtown Wellness Walk, including positive mental health phrases chalked along the route and activities of pickleball, cardio drumming and kubb. This annual walk showcases many downtown amenities and events, leading walkers through parks, past businesses, and through the new Haymarket plaza and the farmers’ market.
While the summer sun brings joy to many people, the Mental Health Action Team prepared the routes with positive messages, written with chalk, to boost everyone’s mood even more. The team wrote dozens of phrases and drew pictures along many of the paths and sidewalks around downtown. Fortunately, the weather cooperated well past the event, leaving the messages for all visitors to enjoy.
The Downtown Wellness Walk is also an opportunity for Eau Claire residents to gather their friends and enjoy their company. Both the Mental Health Action Team and the Chronic Disease Prevention Action Team consider social connectivity as a way to maintain both mental and physical wellbeing. Healthy Communities worked with many of our partners to offer group activities to build community connections. Walkers hopped into a few songs of cardio drumming, learned how to play pickleball, Kubb, and yard tennis, and took a yoga break Phoenix Park. Smiles were everywhere to be seen!
Eau Claire Healthy Communities also gathered some information to help promote Rx Parks, a collaboration with the City of Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, and Forestry division to improve awareness and utilization of Eau Claire’s parks. Rx Parks is a guide to each of the parks in the City of Eau Claire, listing all amenities and some activities that would be possible in the parks. Rx Parks can be found on the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry website.
