It’s back-to-school season, a time to remember how important healthy relationships are in your kids’ lives. Strong and healthy relationships are empowering, supportive, and comforting. We also know that unhealthy relationships have a huge impact on our kids’ health! Nationally, 1 in 3 teens experience dating abuse (National Youth Risk Behavior Survey). This means over 2,500 Eau Claire County teens could be experiencing dating violence each year. So what can you do? Start the conversation about healthy relationships!
Eau Claire Healthy Communities has created the Healthy Relationships Toolkit to provide youth, teens and adults of the Chippewa Valley with resources to help foster healthy relationships and tools to identify potentially unhealthy ones. Teens learn how to behave in relationships from peers, adults in their lives, and the media. It’s time to empower them to build healthy relationships from the ground up.
The Healthy Relationships Toolkit assembles resources for teens and adults (of all genders and relationship types) to consult when exploring, teaching, or talking about healthy relationship behaviors. This toolkit includes a:
- Section for caregivers, educators, and youth-serving professionals that provides resources to guide conversations and lessons.
- Section for teens to learn about topics that support healthy relationship development.
- List of resources that support those who have experienced unhealthy relationship behaviors.
By compiling these resources and tools, we hope to alleviate strain or stress that may be felt when exploring, teaching, or talking about healthy relationship behaviors, ” says Abby Hinz, Co-Chair of the Healthy Relationship Promotion Action Team.
